Trail Reports - Monday, March 28, 2005
It was a phenomenal snowmobiling, cross country skiing and snowshoeing season.
Snowmobile trails officially close April 1. Trail and lake conditions are deteriorating as balmy weather moves in to begin the evolution to open water - and the good old summer time.
The Convention and Visitors Bureau would like to thank the International Voyageurs Snowmobile Club, Voyageurs National Park, Department of Natural Resources, local ski clubs, and snowmobile clubs to the south and west of us. Collectively, these organizations worked together to deliver locals and tourists a world-class trail system.
Its not too early to begin planning your 2005-2006 winter vacation. Below is information about our winter playground.
Enjoy a world-class trail system in and around Minnesotas only national park! International Falls, Ranier and Rainy Lake serve as the northern gateway to Voyageurs National Park. The area has a variety of trails for snowmobilers, cross country skiers and snowshoers. All lodging facilities are tied into the snowmobile trail system for your convenience. Our local snowmobile club (International Voyageurs Snowmobile Club) maintains approximately 160 miles of groomed trails in the Koochiching County and Voyageurs National Park area. The trails link to other trails throughout Minnesota, making connections a breeze!
Voyageurs National Park maintains 110 miles of snowmobile trails most of them are on the lake surfaces in the park. The chain of lakes trail is rated as one of the top ten trails in the United States. This 13.2 mile one way trail meanders through some of the most breathtaking areas of Voyageurs National Park. The trail is one way.
The Northern Minnesota trail system is one of the most scenic systems in the Midwest. Riders can enjoy marked lake trails, many of which are in between pine studded islands. Or, riders can take to the woods and enjoy some of the most impeccably groomed trails in North America. Bring your camera. Wildlife sightings are common. And you simply cannot beat the Christmas card scenery.
Do you like to cross country ski or snowshoe? There are four ski trails in the Voyageurs National Park area encompassing 41 miles of breathtaking scenery. There are also six miles of snowshoe trails.
Rainy Lake replenishes what the rest of the world takes away.
