Current Report: July 19th, 2010
Rainy Lake and International Falls.
Walleye are hitting on leeches and minnows on the submerged reefs in Rainy Lake, word is they have been found in anywhere from 15 to 35 feet of water. Trolling a spinner rigs has been most effective. Big pike are being caught in Black Bay, Cranberry Bay and Lost Bay, casting a lure to the edges of weed beds. Smallmouth Bass fishing has been good with bas going after crayfish like lures.
It’s been most effective to slow troll crawlers on Rainy River for walleye, and the smallmouth bass are pretty active too. Some large sturgeon continue to be caught in the swifter waters below the dam and the rapids on the river.
Blueberries and raspberries are ripe now and there seems to be a fair abundance.
Rainy Lake is a world-class fishery.
There are 940 miles of shoreline with another 635 miles around 1,600 islands. Rainy Lake is regarded as one of the most scenic fishing vacation destinations in the Midwest.
